You may have heard of the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce before, but if you’ve ever wondered what we actually do, you’re not alone. Some people think we’re mostly about networking events or ribbon cuttings. Those things are part of what we do, but they’re not the whole story.
At the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce, what we really do is help local businesses connect, get noticed, and stay involved in the community.
We’re an independent, membership-based organization, and everything we do is made possible by the support of our members, not by government funding. That support takes many forms, from dues and sponsorships to directory ads and event participation, and it has helped sustain our work in the local business community for 110 years. With the help of a volunteer Board of Directors, a small professional staff, and an incredible group of volunteers, we work to help businesses connect, grow, and stay visible in Kenosha.
A big part of that starts with connection.
Running a business isn’t just about offering a product or service. It’s also about building relationships, earning trust, and becoming part of the community around you. That’s why events like Business After 5, our networking groups, and FLIK, our young professionals group for people under 40, matter so much. They give people a chance to meet, connect, and build real relationships that can help their businesses grow.
We also help businesses stay visible.
That can mean a listing in our online Business Directory, a spot in our printed Local Business Guide, referrals, ribbon cuttings, sponsorship opportunities, and other ways to stay in front of the community. For many businesses, especially small businesses, that kind of visibility can make a real difference.
We also want our website to be a useful place for people looking for local businesses, events, and resources. That includes tools like Kenny, our AI chatbot, which helps guide visitors to answers and member businesses more easily. The technology may change, but the goal stays the same: helping people find the right information and the right local businesses.
Events are another big part of that work.
Every year, the Kenosha Expo Health & Home Show brings together thousands of attendees and gives local businesses and organizations a chance to connect directly with the public. It’s not just about promotion. It’s about creating opportunities for businesses to be seen, meet people face to face, and be part of something bigger. With pieces like the Family Activity Area, the Kenosha Community Health Fair, and the Great Kenosha Raffle, Expo reflects what the Chamber is really about: bringing people together in ways that support both local businesses and the community as a whole.
And our work isn’t only about business promotion.
Through the Kenosha Area Chamber Foundation, we award scholarships each year to graduating high school students and adult learners. Those scholarships are supported through events like our Scholarship Golf Classic, Scholarship Charter Fishing Outing, and the Great Kenosha Raffle at Expo. Supporting local businesses and investing in the future of the community go hand in hand.
The truth is, Chamber membership can look a little different for every business.
For a new business, membership might mean getting their name out there, meeting people, and starting to build credibility. For a long-established business, it might mean staying involved, maintaining visibility, supporting the community, and continuing to build strong local relationships.
There’s no one-size-fits-all version of Chamber membership. For some, it starts with attending an event. For others, it may mean a ribbon cutting, a sponsorship, a directory listing, or simply having a stronger connection to the local business community.
So what does a Chamber of Commerce actually do?
It helps create relationships. It helps open doors. It helps people find local businesses, and it helps local businesses find their place in the community. At its best, it helps make a community stronger, more connected, and more supportive of the people and businesses in it.
If you’ve never really looked into what a Chamber does, you’re not alone. We’d love to show you. Stop by our office, attend an event, browse our directory, or take a look around our website. You may find that a Chamber does a lot more than you expected.
